About

Hey there!

My name is Auberon, or Aubie for short. Good to meet you!

I'm a graduate student pursuing a PhD in Medieval English literature. I dabble in many hobbies—knitting and crochet, writing, historical re-enactment, piano, and watercolor painting, to name a few. I think life is all about creation, and I’m happiest when I'm doing something with my hands.

Unfortunately, I have suffered from persistent depressive disorder, which saps most of my energy and motivation, for over a decade. And two years ago, following the birth of my child, I had a severe episode of major depression and almost completely lost touch with my creativity.

Almost.

I started this blog to document my recovery from depression. Medication and therapy are the first-line treatments for depressive disorders, but they aren't miracle cures. The most important stride toward healing is the commitment to build a life worth living. For me, that's commitment to maintaining creative habits.

By sharing my creative accomplishments—big and small, serious and silly—I hope to inspire others who are struggling to make creativity part of their lives again. If that's you, dear reader, I hope I can remind you of the joy in slapping paint on a canvas or knitting socks or writing limericks—whatever it is that you do, or have always wanted to do.
